Wild Magic, Wolf Speaker, Emperor Mage, and the Realms of the Gods, by Tamora Pierce.
It is one of my favorite series. Ok, short Summary~
In the first book, a young woman named Daine discovers that she has Wild Magic, a type of magic that lets her talk with animals. Under the guidance of a wizard named Numair Salamin, her powers grow. During the whole series, she helps her animal friends, and tries to destroy the evil ranks of the Emperor Ozorne.

Tamora Pierce. I like all of her books a lot. I don't know why they're not more popular. She also wrote a popular series called The Song of the Lioness. I haven't read them myself, but here are the books:
